On December 4, 2020, the Open Society Foundations announced that Mark Malloch-Brown — then a member of its Global Board, and a former UN deputy secretary-general and UK minister — would succeed Patrick Gaspard as president effective January 1. George Soros, founder and chair, said he had “known and worked closely with Mark for more than three decades, from supporting opposition to the Pinochet regime in Chile, to bringing relief to the people of Sarajevo and Bosnia, to setting up the International Crisis group together.” The same release lists Gaspard’s prior titles: executive director of the Democratic National Committee, assistant to the president and director of the White House Office of Political Affairs under Barack Obama, and U.S. ambassador to South Africa.
The same calendar day, SGO Companies published a statement congratulating him and saying: “As part of his commitment to sever all ties with private-sector companies, Lord Malloch-Brown is stepping down as Chairman of SGO on December 4.” The statement listed Smartmatic among SGO companies. Companies House records George Mark Lord Malloch-Brown as a director of SGO CORPORATION LIMITED (07477910), appointed 29 September 2014, resigned 4 December 2020. That is a director appointment. It is not a share register. This page does not say he owned Smartmatic.
Breitbart, December 6, 2020, Joel B. Pollak, reported the OSF appointment and the SGO chairmanship, and noted Associated Press language that Smartmatic does not own Dominion and “apparently only provided software to Los Angeles County in the 2020 election.” The Gateway Pundit and American Thinker wrote the same week. Gateway Pundit’s headline called him “former president of Smartmatic.” That wording is the outlet’s. Companies House and SGO’s own statement say director / chairman of SGO.
